Welcome to Door 6 of the Awesome Advent.

Exercise can sometimes feel like a chore. And when you are doing something you don’t enjoy, you’re obviously even less inclined to make the time to exercise.

Before training with Matt, I used to only use the cardio machines in the gym: the treadmill, stair climber, stationary bike, cross trainer, etc. They’re all fine in themselves, and are good for building general all-around fitness.

The biggest problem I have with them, though, is that

They are so blinking boring!

Time on the cardio machines always felt like something to be endured, rather than enjoyed.

Now I do a variety of HIIT workouts, and a range of resistance and body weight exercises I love going to the gym. The key for me is just that – variety and range. Doing little bits of lots of things in circuits stops me getting bored, plus the results I am seeing also keeps me interested.

That’s not to mention the circuits I do involve

Throwing, kicking, and punching things!

I can’t tell you how satisfying that is!

If you are feeling stressed, something like boxing or throwing a sandbell is soooooo satisfying. It’s way better than kicking or throwing something at someone too, which is likely to get you in to trouble no matter how much they are provoking you or winding you up!

Here’s a brief video with Leigh and Matt boxing during a PT session. It really is as fun as it looks…and it can help sometimes to imagine the face of someone who has really annoyed you on the trainer’s pads. Great motivation for punching and kicking hard!
