Hi everyone, and welcome to Door 7 of the #Awesome Advent.
The media often tries to tell us what the ‘ideal’ shape is – but there is no such thing!
We humans come in all shapes and sizes.
Tall, short, slender, curvy, stocky, petite….and everything in between.
All of those shapes are beautiful.
Your shape is part of what makes you, you. And that is what makes you special.
Like many things, being happy with your body and achieving body confidence is about mindset.
Always remember that a healthy mind is crucial to having a healthy body. Part of that is about having realistic goals that are sustainable, and connected to that is accepting your shape. For example, I am a 5′ 2″ hourglass figure. I like food, and while I have been shedding bodyfat, building muscle, and my tummy is getting flatter I know I am unlikely ever to have a six pack. While I am dedicated to my fitness journey, I know that getting a six pack requires a whole new level of commitment and change of diet that is likely to make me miserable. I am much happier with my current balance.
Eat healthily, and workout – to become the best you, not an imitation of someone else.
The older I get the more I discover that every single one of us has body hang ups. Even women with figures I admire have parts of their body that they would like to change. So don’t let body hangups prevent you doing what you want, whether that is wearing a particular outfit, or working out. Try not to worry about what people think (easier said than done, I know).
And no bodyshaming, please – of anyone. We all have our different journeys, different motivations, different commitments.
We’ve all got so many stresses in life: it’s much better to use your energy loving yourself rather than adding additional pressures by beating yourself up.
